Finding Strength in the Silence: Lessons from Joseph’s Pit
There are times in our lives when it feels like God is silent, when we are in a pit with no water, no sense of His presence. In these moments, it can be tempting to give up, to lose faith. But, like Joseph, we must learn to trust in God even when we cannot see or sense Him.
Joseph’s time in the pit was a test of faith. It was a season of silence, where God seemed distant. But Joseph did not lose hope. Instead, he remembered and reflected on the God who had brought him out of past pits. He reflected on the emotional toll those experiences had taken on him, but also on the joy he felt when he emerged victorious.
There are seasons in our lives where we may feel devalued, whether professionally or relationally. These seasons are not about comfort but about development. The pit is a place of strength-building, where our faith is tested, and our ability to hold on to an unseen God is put to the test.
In the pit, we must be careful not to speak words that go against the truth of God’s Word. We must allow blessings to flow from our mouths, even if we can’t muster them ourselves. Reading Scripture can help us stay grounded in truth and avoid elongating our time in the pit.
Remember, the pit is just a test. It is a season that will pass. So, hold on to your faith, trust in God’s plan, and know that He is with you, even in the silence.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” – Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” – Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)
