Moments are not Memorials (Romans 8:18-23)
We cannot fathom an eternal God in our mortal intellect. We can’t always make sense of the “whys” of life and doing so (in the moment or immediately after the moment) is usually a waste of time. The truth and reason presents itself years after understanding a thing would even matter. God’s ways are never “figured out” mentally, they are always revealed spiritually. Tough moments are nothing more than an occasion for God to move and reveal himself to us in a new way. If we are going to dwell on something, it won’t be the negative moments. From a biblical perspective, altars were never built to commemorate where they felt abandoned, betrayed or hurt. Altars and memorials were never resurrected to show the negative of any situation. Altars were built to show the God that showed up in a negative situation. Don’t allow the negative moments that you experience to be memorialized while you forget the sovereign God that delivered, healed, rescued, blocked, protected and ultimately performed when you felt that all hope was lost. Dwelling on negativity is like putting dirty fingers in an open wound. It will get infected. When wounds get infected, they grow bigger and the effect is far reaching although the original injury was much smaller. While we cannot control what happens, we can control how we treat the wound. Apply the ointment, cover it, and leave it alone. It may leave a scar, but scars don’t hurt.
Prayer/Confession: God, I repent for allowing moments to be memorials and prioritizing my hurt over Your healing. I confess that I am now healed and delivered from every wound and I exchange the freedom of Your healing for the attention that I attracted while showing my hurt.
